Unicycling Owls

Hopefully this won't ruin any possibility of surprise but I couldn't wait to get these images uploaded. My cousin, Reid, turns 1 tomorrow. That's pretty exciting! I haven't seen her since she was a wee, lil lassie, she is already so grown up. She's already super hip (just being related to me puts one in that category) so she deserves a hand made card! I decided I wanted to use a unicycle since I have always loved transportation and recently (bi)cycles. The owl is sort of disturbing, especially for a one year old but I thought One-Owl...similar? Ok, that's pushing it, really I picked it because she comes from some very intelligent parents, so she will be wise and owls represent wisdom. No comments on the owl's chicken legs...I had to adjust to make it look correct. Ha!
This is the back. I used part of a Lewis Carroll poem from "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," along with some collage elements. Pretty snazzy! This is what happens when I drink to much tea, I'm going to be sorry tomorrow morning. Nighty, night!

Around the Alley

I am a little behind on posting the photos from my daily, bike riding, adventures but with school fast approaching, an art festival in a few month along with casual get-togethers here and there, it's much to much!
Plus, I go out intending to work up a sweat and I end up finding all kinds of gems. I keep thinking eventually I won't see anything new but as I change up my route I notice new things each time [These are all from Monday]: I love wheat paste. One of my favorite street artist is Swoon! This reminded me of her work. This doesn't really count as 'street art' perse but I know I have mentioned Xvala. I see his stuff everywhere. I have even seen it in one of Norman's "hoity-toity" art galleries, he must be big time. This is the back entrance to one of Norman's sandwich shops, Bison Witches. I thought the cut outs were a special detail for a back alley. I'm sure they make the garbage men smile everytime they empty the dumpster! "Oh, my magic 8 ball, will I meet my soul mate riding a bike and stenciling in an alley?" Answer: 'Signs point to yes.' (no lies, that's what it said) Ha! Damn the man and his nasty 'no parking' signs! If you like what you have seen so far, I recommend taking a risk, walk/ride down an unassuming alley and you may just be surprised by the beauty!

The Plaza District

Last month I turned in an application for OKC's Plaza District Festival. The Plaza District is a little row of shops in urban Oklahoma City that they have been revamping. It may be the next hot spot/'hipster, art scene.' They have done a great job of promoting the area and someone (most likely the tax payers) has done a nice job at maintaining the landscape. The festival takes place Saturday, October 3rd from 3pm-11pm. I got an official 'acceptance' letter yesterday. I was pretty excited they found my work worthy. I will be sharing the booth with a couple of my buddies so come and see us and buy some stuff!

Kiss the Cook!

I have been doing a little cooking but nothing to difficult. Mostly I live off of sandwiches (turkey pastrami) and raw or cooked veggies and fruit. I'm going no/low high fructose corn syrup as much as possible. I refrain from using the term 'diet' because I'm I know it's like the "f" word to some. So this isn't particularly challenging but it was the most delicious meal I have ever cook/baked myself. Pizza! I know it doesn't look like much but I'm going to let you in on the secret ingredients that make it pop:
1.] 1 clove of chopped garlic in the sauce
2.] some canned, sun-dried tomatoes also spread in the sauce.
3.] dried basil sprinkled on top!
Throw in some cheese, pepperonis, and black olives and you have all the calories you need for the day in one meal! Even if it's not much healthier, it's much tastier than fast food. I'm really just proud I took the initiative to throw some stuff to together and have it turn out decent. Dance Party!

Breaking Rules...

...showing an ugly experiment, dirtying up my blog. I have found it's just as important to document the process as the final piece. Also, what if someone offers up some incredible insight? The possibilities are endless so being a bit untidy is worth the risk. Without further ado: I know, I know, even if you squint it's still a mess. Here's the story: It's vinyl. I didn't have clear (which would have been ideal). The only transparent vinyl I have has a yellow hue, but it was suitable for a trial run. It would also have photographed much nicer had I stretched it. Again, this was all a learning experience: Will the spray paint adhere to the vinyl? will it bleed badly? Will it ever dry? These type of questions were answered. Furthermore, this is the idea I have: I was thinking I would stretch patterned fabric behind the vinyl! With the correct execution it could be interesting, right? I'm up for ideas and pointers!

Today's Curiosities: I dig the dashed tires, very kinetic. This is my favorite. The scale is great and do I have to mention the perfect, premeditated placement? 200L=tool!? Genius! Peace. "O" for Obama?
