In the midst of proof reading my last post, I smiled. I felt warm inside. All that sentimental, 'to good to be true', 'she's compensating' jazz.In lieu of this feeling, I wanted to give you another little dose of Thanksgiving and life experiences. I don't usually post stuff like this but I wanted to share a movie trailer with you.
I was at my friends house for our weekly 'craftster night' and this trailer silenced the room. I think it's the piano. The piano has always done it for me. The piano, the metaphors, George Clooney. Oh! It's just irresistible. I probably won't see this movie, as the last movie I saw was 'Star Trek,"(which I practically had to be dragged to.) I'm not much of movie goer, but this trailer is beautiful. Enjoy it. Think about it... Are changes in order? New Year's resolutions are due soon!
EDIT: For documentation purposes, here is the unforgettable monologue from the 'Up in the Air' trailer lost to corporate greed (in case you're interested):
"How much does your life weigh? Imagine for a second that you're carrying a backpack. I want you to pack it with all the stuff that you have in your life... you start with the little things. The shelves, the drawers, the knickknacks, then you start adding larger stuff. Clothes, tabletop appliances, lamps, your TV... the backpack should be getting pretty heavy now. You go bigger. Your couch, your car, your home... I want you to stuff it all into that backpack. Now I want you to fill it with people. Start with casual acquaintances, friends of friends, folks around the office... and then you move into the people you trust with your most intimate secrets. Your brothers, your sisters, your children, your parents and finally your husband, your wife, your boyfriend, your girlfriend. You get them into that backpack, feel the weight of that bag. Make no mistake your relationships are the heaviest components in your life. All those negotiations and arguments and secrets, the compromises. The slower we move the faster we die. Make no mistake, moving is living. Some animals were meant to carry each other to live symbiotically over a lifetime. Star crossed lovers, monogamous swans. We are not swans. We are sharks. "

Thanks
I'm hours away from an extended weekend and lots of soul food. I'm ancy as hell. I'm trying my best to get out of this office. Mentally. I decided to take a gander at flikr to escape my dreary surroundings. Within moments I was smiling at everyone's Thanksgiving photos. The internet is a lovely beast.

Through all the eye candy, I began to count my blessings. There are A LOT. I made an brief list:
Much love to my ma and pa. Even though we span 25 years I can always relate to you guys. I realize this is invaluable, if I had the power I'd share this luck with everyone.
My friends; old, new, neglected, reunited, thick and thin. I know it's cliche, but this year has been ridiculous. You've put up with me and been extremely accommodating. I can only hope that you will continue to ride this one out with me. It's been real. Real, real fun!
Thanks to THAT boy. He can't take all the credit, I made the hard decisions, took the plunge. Jumped off the cliff, yada, yada. But, he was a stepping stone. It's because of him that I strive to be a better person. Experience new things, get out there. Grab hold of those reigns, after all, they've always been mine to control. Much love.
The number 2. In many ways this number symbolizes the 'new found' perspective I've acquired (or built). It still serves as a heavy source of inspiration in my art and my life in general. I've fought with it but I've decided it's a blessing. Without 2 what would become of 1 or 3? A lot hinges on its existence.
May everyone be blessed this Thanksgiving and everyday. Before we know it it will be 2010! Live it up! Take heed of your days, don't waste 'em. Holiday wishes!

Graduation
Two of my cousins are embarking on their 'grown up lives' this December. They're graduating college! What a way to round out 2009.
My cousin, Jay, has a very loving and organized little sister that has been planning a grand celebration. She has asked me to design the graduation announcements. Since I've been on a map obsession these past few months and he's going to carry a bachelors in international transactions, I decided to run with a globe theme. Traveling, the big picture, the world at his fingertips! Here are a couple of quick mock ups I threw together this afternoon:
Which one strikes your fancy? Why? Better ideas?

Sunday, A Day for Work
After a very busy and playful weekend I decided I'd buck up and get some work done. Sunday I headed out to my parents and finish up some pieces. They have a fancy shop and a great place to spray paint indoors.
My mess spread about.

These photographs are terrible. In fact, my portfolio deadlines are fast approaching and I haven't even begun to consider how I'm going to accomplish professional photographs.
Tagging mom's work table. She was a bit amused.
While I worked on my stuff, mom taped and painted this Santa she bought a garage sale. It's just dandy!
I also finished my ornament for the swap but I'm going to wait awhile to reveal. I don't want to spoil the fun for my partner. On a serious note, somewhat dim, I may miss a deadline for one of my grad school apps. I just went to double check the deadlines and one appears to be Dec. 1. It's just not possible. I can't rush what I have begun, it's too risky. Most of the schools require submission by mid January but due to my poor organization I'm going to fail one. I feel guilty for running around and messing around every weekend but I just can't sit still. The weather, good friends, lots to do. I need to learn some self discipline and get back to focusing on balance. Welcome Monday!

Saturday Spending
Saturday, Day II of my short lived freedom, involved a trip to Edmond. Taraneh and I intended on getting some crepes (we failed) but that was the reason we were making the drive. As if we need to justify getting out of town? We did some shopping, had a delicious lunch at P.F. Changs and cruised back and forth throughout OKC. We went into a Stein Mart in Edmond and found these outrageous accessories.
I think I could die content if I saw someone wearing this hat in public.
T took the subtle approach. Black and simplistic with feathers to add a formal touch.
Most of our travels revolved around hunting an illusive CD. T has some very obscure taste in music. So, from time-to-time we hit every record store in the greater metro for new tunes. This time we failed. Check out this liquor store next to our favorite CD store:
It's magnificent. Unfortunately, our CD store was closed for inventory (Blah) but I did get to see these lights. It would make Chevy Chase proud.
Mid afternoon we were in need of a boost. I had read about this coffee shop on southside OKC and we thought we'd give it a shot. It happen to be in a very dodgy part of town but we said 'what the hell, it's the weekend!'
Joe's Addiction. I'd say their coffee is average. Mine seemed watered down and T said her cappuccino was rather bitter. Aside from the location, the place was nice, it felt like grandma's house.
A tall is TALL. We hit a few more CD stores, again empty handed and then we went for some frozen yogurt.
Yum. Nothing like charging by weight. These places are popping up everywhere and I don't think it's half bad. So much for Saturday. So much fun, so much to do, it was over before we could say "WAIT."

Weekend Fun Part I
It always begins on Friday. I let out a sigh and hop in my car. Once I put that key in the ignition a weight is lifted. I have 2 days of freedom. So much to see and do. Sometimes it's hard to go home. The acceleration, and the perfect cruisin' music make me just want to drive. Anywhere, just away.
This Friday I stayed close. I hit the city with Sarah, a friend from work. We had a great time. We hit an art opening at Artspace and then had dinner at my favorite, Iguana. One of the reasons we were trekking to OKC was so that Sarah could check out Sara Sara Cupcake. We had dinner and drinks, chatted and giggled and suddenly I realized it was 9:30. We missed Sara Sara, they shut at 9.
I was devestated. As a result of the Sangria, I threw a tantrum.
Sarah was impressed with their yard. It's astroturf. I think she may invest in some of that lovely synthetic ground covering. It's green all year!
Since our initial motivation to hit OKC was cupcakes, I suggested we try Cuppies and Joe. Taraneh and I had previously attempted to check the place out but it was elbow to elbow at 10pm on a Friday night so we bounced. Luckily, Sarah and I missed the crowd last Friday and we were successful in munching some cupcakes.
MMmm all Smiles.
Mine was named 'Lemony Snickets.' Boy was it tasty!
Ebony and Ivory, undressed.
I also had some delicious apple cider.
Classy and festive landscaping.
Afterwards, we hunted Wayne Coyne's house. Many turn arounds later we found it. In the middle of a very coarse neighborhood it glistened with various colored lights and stained glass windows.
I'm sure it's not quite as stunning in the light due to it's dumpy surroundings. Perhaps I'm being pessimistic but I would like to remember it in it's night time glory.
That brings our Friday night adventures to a close. Until next time..
