Comfort Food

Good Morning! I'm 'up an at 'em' wishing I could be working in my studio instead of sitting behind a desk. I have to admit, I've been on a wane. Not for lack of ideas or inspiration but motivation. I get home and I just don't feel like tying on the apron and squirting paint. I need to cut some stencils, do some embroidery and spray some frames. Instead, I've been cooking and reading. Yes, cooking. It's time consuming and surprisingly fun. I still feel awkward moving about the kitchen but the more I do it the more fluid it becomes. Chopping and prepping veggies has to be my favorite phase. I'm not much for standing in front of the range but I like holding a knife (go figure). I recently joined the Oklahoma Food Coop so I'm driven to make use of that commitment. I look forward to a summer full of fresh, organic, locally grown veggies! Once I feel my cooking endeavors are worthy of note, I'll disclose some of my creations. In the meantime, I'm trying to get into the groove and knock out some projects so you'll probably see those before you see any food. Engagements keep mounting and distracting me. I've also been doing quite a bit of reading. Right now, Michael Pollan's "In Defense of Food." If you enjoy nonfiction and you're interested in the history of the Western Diet and how it has contributed to America's demise, check it out. It's a quick and interesting read.
Yesterday, my great aunt, Berta, came into town so we all met to check out my cousin's new place and eat dinner. It was well worth sacrificing studio time. I hadn't seen her in a year or two so it was nice to catch up. This weekend I have nothing planned and I'm taking off Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully I can use the time off to make some headway.

I've agreed to participate in the Blue Dome Festival in Tulsa with one of my friends from art school. I look forward to it but there is plenty to work on between now and May 14. While I hope to get started this weekend I do plan on taking a few day trips or maybe a long camping trip for inspiration. I could use some discipline and creative juice. I'm sorry this post is a little disorganized but that only represents how scatterbrained I am. If you have some to spare, send me some good vibes, good karma, and motivation.

  3. So what are you doing with your time off? Is San Angelo on your agenda by chance??

By the way... I just realized I haven't emailed you! Forgive me. I will try and knock one out tomorrow!

  4. Casie, I'm not sure. I'm torn between Angelo, my grandparents/Mexico and Eureka Springs. I just don't know. We'll see! Shoot me an email!
